Auto Claims Representative I – Waterloo, Ontario

What you will do…

  • Manage a caseload of auto claims for customers across Ontario and Nova Scotia from our office in Waterloo ON or New Minas NS.
  • Co-ordinate the services of repair shops, rental vendors, and appraisers where necessary.
  • Identify Claims where injuries to our client or Third Parties have occurred.
  • Ensure that claims are adjusted to the service standards and protocols established by Heartland Insurance.
  • Maintain fully documented claims files. Record and store documents to support file activity, and document action plans to support the file direction.
  • Ensure that claims losses are mitigated appropriately for Heartland and our client.
  • Develop strong customer, broker and vendor relationships through personal accountability.
  • Maintain a diary system to ensure completion of outstanding tasks remains on track.

What you will bring…

  • Minimum of 1 year of prior multi-line or auto PD claims adjusting experience is an asset.
  • CIP designation or willing to pursue.
  • Good understanding of Ontario Automobile Policy and Nova Scotia Automobile Policy wordings.
  • Proficient with adjustment practices for most common types of entry-level auto claims.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, as well as working independently.
  • Must be able to work in office from Waterloo ON or New Minas NS 3 days per week

  • Coordinate the services of field adjusters, emergency services or contractors where necessary.
  • Ensure that claims are adjusted to the service standards and protocols established by Heartland Insurance.
  • Maintain fully documented claims files. Record and store documents to support file activity, and document action plans to support the file direction.
  • Ensure that claims losses are mitigated appropriately for Heartland and our client.
  • Develop strong customer, broker, and vendor relationships through personal accountability.
  • Maintain a diary system to ensure the completion of outstanding tasks remains on track.

What you will bring…

  • Minimum of 1-year claims adjusting experience, preferably handling property claims, although applicants with auto experience would be considered.
  • Post-secondary diploma in a business, journalism, law and security or a similar program, CIP designation or actively pursuing.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, as well as working independently.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard property policies is desirable.
  • Being cross-trained in auto and property claims is a definite asset.

The Casualty Claims Representative II role will be responsible to manage a mixture of Bodily Injury and Casualty claims of increasing complexity in the jurisdictions that Heartland operates.

Casualty Claims Representative II – Waterloo, Ontario

What you will do…

  • Manages a caseload of minor to moderate complexity tort claims, including investigation of coverage, liability and quantum.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of liability policy coverages and insurance legislation relative to the management of tort claims.
  • Display sound economic judgement to support all financial transactions.
  • Maintain fully documented claims files. Record and store documents to support file activity, and document action plans to support the file direction.
  • Develop strong customer, broker and vendor relationships through personal accountability.
  • Coordinates any necessary field investigation through the retention of field adjusters, reconstruction engineers, etc. under the guidance of the team leader or specialist.
  • Engages in settlement negotiations and will often be required to attend settlement meetings, private mediations and/or pre-trials.
  • Maintains a diary system to ensure completion of outstanding tasks remains on track.
  • Updates reserving and manages payments in accordance with company guidelines.
